News| WSI Launches Wealth Creation Opportunity for Developers | 7/24/2002 | Toronto, Canada
“WSI capitalizes on the best of two different software development models to capture global market share”
Two of the greatest software development stories in history were championed by two very different men, using two very different approaches. By harnessing the power of the free enterprise system, Bill Gates created the largest software development company in the world and took his seat at the head of the table as the world’s richest man. Yet with the resources of the worlds largest software development company, Microsoft, under his control, Bill Gates and the rest of the world watched in amazement as Linus Torvalds created Linux; what many believed to be the greatest computer operating system the world has ever known. What makes the Linux story even more astounding is that Linus Torvalds did this without any investment capital, no shareholders, and without any employees. Torvalds had a vision of creating a new and better operating system that provided an alternative to what many developers saw as the big business, self appointed leader, Windows. Through an open standards software development model, Torvalds harnessed the power of the world’s software developers, all working for free as a virtual software community.
Now WSI, an International Internet Consulting and Education firm is taking a page out of both Gates and Torvalds play book. WSI has established itself as the world’s leading Internet Services franchise whose systems are used by over 700 franchisees in 87 countries around the world. Rated as the #1 Internet Services franchise in the world, by Entrepreneur Magazine, WSI has announced the launch of its e-MAP development framework, which allows independent software and web developers to develop innovative products and Web Services and earn a royalty on the sale of these products and Web Services throughout the world.
“The e-MAP (e-Marketplace Approved Product) initiative has been developed to add value to all of our stake holders, including Internet Consultants, Production Partners and their Clients,” states Louis Zalany, WSI’s Chief Executive Officer, “we are harnessing the power of the independent software development community around the world in the same way that Linus Torvalds did, but by cutting each of these software and Web Service developers in on the action on our global network they can also profit tremendously. Imagine if all the developers who contributed to the development of Linux received a small royalty on every installation…. It’s win win win all around!”
The new products developed through WSI’s e-MAP initiative will be available through WSI Internet Consultants around the world, thereby expanding the profitability of each WSI Internet Consultant’s business while adding value to their offering for end clients.

It is projected that B2B e-commerce will represent $8.5 trillion US by the year 2005. Predictions of incredible growth are driving companies to re engineer how they operate their businesses in order to keep up with growth in demand.
WSI, a worldwide leader and leading edge Internet Consulting and Education Company, has carefully positioned itself to comfortably handle the vertical growth it is experiencing throughout the World. WSI has reinvented their business process including how they deliver support to their clients. Due to vertical growth in the company’s client base, demand for support by it’s “Internationally Recognized Internet Consultants” - has rapidly grown to thousands of requests a month.
In order to maintain the scalability of their support services, WSI has moved to a multi-tiered support infrastructure. This carefully engineered backbone allows WSI to deliver quality service to over 700 Consultants in over 85 countries globally. This centralized support system has given support staff the ability to triage each support issue. Issues of high impact to a Consultant’s business can be addressed immediately while still meeting service level agreements for issues of a lower priority.
The support services department is enabled to deliver quality support through effective tools and empowered staff. The mantra of the support center is that every Internet Consultant and their clients are our top customer and priority.
Some of the web-enabled tools of WSI’s support center include a ticketing CRM system that tracks all the requests and keeps the user updated on a real-time basis with the status of his or her request. The CRM also contains a knowledge base that provides WSI Consultants access to self-support around the clock. At the same time, support staff has a customized interface into the MAPS™ system - the nucleus of WSI’s operations backbone and their e-Marketplace.
WSI’s advanced networking system includes wireless enabled communicators including two way paging devices, monitoring software and intelligent systems that allow support representatives to trouble shoot issues from remote locations.
WSI has announced that the MAPS™ system is expected to become WAP enabled during the 1st quarter of 2002, allowing WSI Consultants to access “real-time” information & contact the WSI support services department from any location, eliminating the need for wired communication. | | WSI announces new Web Operating System (WOS) for management of websites. | 9/6/2001 | Toronto, Canada
WSI has deployed a new Web Operating System (WOS) within its hosting environment. The WOS is a secure, browser-based web-site control management interface. It represents a significant leap forward in providing a self-service solution for the management of hosted web sites. The impact of the WOS translates into more rapid deployment of web sites as well as more timely maintenance of sites.
The greatest benefits will be to WSI’s network of Internet Consultants (ICs), and Production Centers. The WOS enables management of site files, email, security, databases, traffic and utilization reports via any browser. What, in the past, would take hours to launch a site, can now be done within minutes, any time of the day, anywhere in the world.
“Our Franchisees are located around the world”, explains WSI CTO, Bob Lewis. While people are working in one part of the world, the other half of the world is asleep. But global business never stops, and the sun never sets on WSI’s global production capacities. By deploying the WOS, we can re-deploy our nighttime resources to other activities in support of the network. At the same time, the process of placing sites online is greatly reduced. It’s a win-win situation for our network. ”

| | WSI announces creation of the Virtual Private Marketplace (VPM) for its network of franchisees. | 5/5/2001 | Toronto, Canada
WSI has created the first e-marketplace within the Internet franchise sector. The Virtual Private Market Place (VPM) is a B2B system, which enables WSI’ s Internet Consultants (ICs), Production Centers to collaborate and transact business via the Internet. At the core of the VPM is the MAPS™ system, which is a web-based project management, and communication system.
According to IDC, e-markets are expected to generate over 2 Trillion dollars of transactions by 2004. E-markets are ideally suited to businesses that support supply chain relationships such as WSI’s network of ICs, and Production Centers. To illustrate, an IC located in the US is working with a mid-sized business to develop an e-commerce solution. After the IC documents all design and functionality requirements, an on-line work estimate for the building of the solution is submitted to several Production Centers via MAPS™. After the chosen Production Center completes the project and the IC’s client signs off the work, payment is made to the Production Center and the site is placed on-line. The entire cycle is completed virtually and coordinated through the MAPS™ system. “The VPM and the MAPS system are integral components supporting our network of Franchisees and the growth of our business model” says President, Nigel Mayne. “The VPM model is highly scalable and will accommodate thousands of additional business relationships as WSI continues it’s phenomenal growth.”

| | WSI announces the launch of its new web-based Business Management System – MAPS™ | 4/6/2001 | Toronto, Canada
WSI has released to its network of Internet Consultants and production centers a groundbreaking new system for managing all aspects of web-developed. Known as MAPS™, the system is an integrated web-based, project management, project accounting, time-management, and web-site management system.
WSI is the first global Internet consultancy firm to develop and deploy a web-based project management system. With a network of over 700 franchise owners, and production centers located globally, the ability to communicate from a common platform was a critical factor in developing the system.
As outlined by the company’s CTO, Bob Lewis, “our global network of Internet Consultants (ICs) provides thousands of e-business solutions for small to medium sized businesses which in turn are sent to Production Centers around the globe for development. To ensure consistent and systematic project development, timely delivery, real time communication and collaboration, it made a lot of sense to provide a common tool for managing all phases web development. MAPS™ is the key communication and collaboration tool of our network. Without it, the kind of high volume project management that our Internet Consultants require would be very difficult. Just imagine submitting work to many different Production Centers, each with a different project management and development process, using 4 different architectures…what a nightmare”.
Developed in conjunction with a research and development grant from the Canadian Government, MAPS™ is anticipated to immediately benefit Internet Consultants and Production Centers. For Internet Consultants, MAPS™ will manage all projects developed for their clients. All issues associated with a project are recorded within the system, so a complete audit trail is available at the click of a mouse. Having a central project management facility improves IC efficiency. For Production Centers, full project scheduling, profit and loss, and resource time tracking allow centers to deliver projects on time and within budget. And access to the system is available 24/7 with accessible via any browser—which is a must for global based operations.
